A remote area of Cornwall, U.K... a dark and eerie night... strange and unexplainable happenings... conflict between the past and the present.... All these and more serve to set the stage for Barrow Hill, a haunting mystery/adventure game from Shadow Tor Studios.
After your car breaks down as you are driving through the Cornwall countryside, you are forced to go for assistance. However, on this night, in this place, you will encounter more than you bargained for, as forces begin stirring in the woods, and a forgotten legend awakes.
The game takes place entirely in the space of a single night -- September 21, the autumnal equinox -- in a location already laden with myth and legend. Barrow Hill, Cornwall is the site of an ancient burial ground, undisturbed for centuries, but now exposed to the diggings of an industrious archaeologist. You must delve into ancient Celtic legends, learn about ancient kings and mythological characters, and follow the path of archaeologist Conrad Morse, in an attempt to find out what is happening, and stop the horror before it is too late.
Barrow – A burial mound. Typically used thousands of years ago to honor the great men at the time. Some barrows are simply large piles of dirt over a grave. Others contain rooms and chambers. Sometimes the barrows were marked with standing stones, or menhirs. England has thousands of barrows and standing stones (the most famous of which is Stone Henge). The county of Cornwall is especially rich with these artifacts from the past. In fact, they have a small town named Barrow Hill which contains, you’ll never guess, a barrow with standing stones. Stranded on the lonely road, which leads up to the Barrow, you must make your way through the trees, and darkening landscape, and out onto the Barrow itself. You will discover that the barrow is more than just a mound of earth and a collection of forgotten standing stones. However, not all archaeology is constructive, for some things should be left buried and undisturbed. Perhaps it is too late for that…

The Suffering [pc]

In The Suffering, you'll play as a thick-sideburned tough guy named Torque. The game opens with Torque being led to his new cell on death row at Abbott State Penitentiary, an island-based prison where the baddest of the bad go to die. Torque has been convicted of murdering his wife and two sons, but he doesn't actually remember anything concerning their murders. After a brief intro, a bunch of creepy monsters attack the prison, slaying many of the guards and inmates alike. This leaves Torque free to explore so that, hopefully, he can escape the prison island and reach safety.

Recoil [PC Games]

Recoil is really a hybrid. First off, it's pretty thoughtful game. You need to thing things through before you go charging off into the jaws of death. But it's also a game of intense, frantic action. Here's how it works: You formulate what you consider to be a reasonable and thorough plan and put it into action. Suddenly it all goes terribly and completely wrong. Once the smoke clears you start all over again. Make a new plan...etc. Who was it who said "No plan ever survives contact with the enemy?" Give that guy a raise. He's on to something.

Your job is to drive into six successive battle zones. The "sinister forces" (snicker) have seized several installations and it's up to you to liberate them. They own missile silos, power plants, mining operations, etcetera. There are several different parts to each mission-blow up the force field to get to the power plant to shut off the power to disarm the missiles that were aimed at the house that Jack built. You get the idea. At the end of each zone, you are airlifted to the next and the whole process starts over again.

The controls are pretty basic. You have one set for the base of the tank and another for the turret. I found that using the arrow keys to steer the tank and the mouse to point the turret worked extremely well. There are a few other options here but none of them seemed to work as well.
